Deontay Wilder vs Artur Szpilka Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on January 15, 2016 19:47 GMTWe’ve got the first big heavyweight title bout to face off in Brooklyn in well over a century ready to unfold on Saturday and there is a lot to like about this big clash between Deontay Wilder and Polish upstart Artur Szpilka. With the American heavyweight champion coming in with all kinds of momentum after impressing significantly during his last effort, you can expect a fair amount of betting volume on this - also a fact exacerbated by the fight being aired on terrestrial television.
Many boxing observers are already looking past Szpilka and thinking that Wilder’s next announcement will be a fight with either Tyson Fury (a fighter who has already declared his intention to fight Wilder) or Wladimir Klitschko. Carl Froch also waits in the wings but is more likely to face the losing fighter in his next outing.
Szpilka enters the fight looking for his fifth win on the bounce after beating out Yasmany Consuegra by technical decision. His only loss came against Bryant Jennings back in 2014 via TKO. Since then he has been in good form and many are saying that he appears to be in the form of his life.
It’s worth noting that the Polish fighter weighed in abouy five pounds heavier than Wilder did.
The fact remains, however that Wilder is the significant favourite for this contest and the bookmakers have him as short as a 1/8 margin for the outright victory by any method. It will be difficult for many punters to be able to produce any type of actual profit by backing him outright so you will expect many more to be hunting around in the other markets in an attempt to find value on Wilder.
