First Round Action at Lakeside
- By Jaymes Monte on January 2, 2011 09:00 GMTThe first round of the BDO World Championships continues at Lakeside this Sunday afternoon.
An all-English affair between Gary Robson and Steve Douglas kicks off the darting action at Lakeside on day two of the event. Robson, twice a quarter-finalist at the event, is the bookmakers favourite to progress to the last 16 at odds of 8/15, although at 7/4 it wouldn’t be a major shock if Douglas were to win.
The second match of the day sees last year’s runner-up Dave Chisnall take on current BDO number four Steve West. Chissy burst onto the BDO scene at last year’s World Championships with his impressive run to the final hitting a brilliant 43 180s throughout the tournament. He is 4/9 to go through to the second round and 15/2 to go one better and win this year’s event.
According to the bookmakers the most closely matched fixture of the day is between world number two Stuart Kellett and two-time Lakeside semi-finalist Darryl Fitton. It is 4/5 that Kellett continues his impressive season by going through to the second round in his debut at Lakeside whilst it is 5/4 that Fitton’s experience proves to be the pivotal factor.
The penultimate match of the evening has Garry Thompson as the 4/11 favourite to beat young German Arno Merk who is also making his Lakeside debut.
Then the evening concludes with recent Zuiderduin Masters champion Ross Montgomery against Englishman Alan ‘Chuck’ Norris. Montgomery is the 4/9 favourite to progress to the second round whilst Norris is 15/8 to go through to the last 16.
