Gunners on Course for Quadruple
- By Jaymes Monte on January 29, 2011 11:17 GMTArsenal take on Huddersfield in the FA Cup this Sunday as they remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple this season.
The Gunners qualified for the Carling Cup final in midweek with a 3-0 win over Ipswich, are five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United and face Barcelona at the last 16 stage of the Champions League. Although it remains a possibility the chances of Arsene Wenger’s side being successful on all fronts are slim, in fact rated as a 350/1 chance by some bookmakers.
Nevertheless, they will be confident of progressing to the fifth round of the FA Cup this weekend when they come up against a Huddersfield side that are ranked 45 places lower in the English football pyramid.
Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia returns to the Arsenal squad after four months out through injury while fellow keeper Lukasz Fabianski remains sidelined. Bacary Sagna is expected to be rested after suffering concussion in the midweek win over Ipswich, Sebastien Squillaci, Abou Diaby and Toma Rosicky are all likely to feature.
Huddersfield manager Lee Clark is without leading goalscorer Jordan Rhodes, on-loan teenager Benfik Afobe cannot play against his parent club and Tamas Kadar is a doubt.
After a slight dip in form in the early part of January Arsenal are now back to what they do best. They have won their last four games in all competitions scoring three goals in each and conceding only once in that period. Although Wenger will certainly utilise his squad players here there is no reason why their rich vein of form won’t continue.
Wenger has praised his players for showing maturity in recent weeks and they’ll need to show that here to record a win which, on paper, looks relatively straightforward.
