Aviva Premiership Preview and Tips: Harelquins vs. Newcastle
- By Adam Currie on October 2, 2010 21:00 GMTLondon based Harlequins host the men from Newcastle today, in what is being deemed one of the more one-sided contests of the weekend- a great thing for the punters.
Harlequins have made only one change to their match day squad, as they look to build on the momentum gained over their first win of the season over Exeter last weekend.
Winger Tom Williams returns to take his place in the starting XV.
Newcastle on the other hand have culled the side from last week, making six wholesale changes in an attempt to finally kick-start their season.
Most occur in the backline where Chris Pilgrim comes in at scrum-half, Jeremy Manning starts at full-back, Luke Fielden at wing and Rob Vickerman at outside centre.
Harlequins: Brown; Camacho, Smith, Turner-Hall; Evans, Care; Marler, Cairns, Johnston, Kohn, Vallejos, Robshaw (capt), Skinner, Easter.
Newcastle: Manning; Fielden, Vickerman, Henderson, Amesbury; Gopperth, Pilgrim; Shiells, Vickers, Ryan, Levi, Swinson, Welch, Pennycook, Hogg.
Newcastle have struggled so far this season, having one just one game so far (Wasps at home), and are desperate to get something out of this season.
Harlequins on the other hand are unbeaten in their last four clashes with Newcastle- something that is sure to pump up the first XV heading out of the tunnel.
Last weekend's victory over Exeter Chiefs, in front of a jubilant home crowd, has provided a much needed boost for the London side, and one which not only took them up into mid-table territory, but also got the team back to winning ways.
With the disappointment of last week behind them, Falcons coach Alan Tait feels that this Newcastle side have the ability to win today; however based on current form...Quins will take this one at a trot.
