Jake Paul vs Ben Askren Fight Betting

One of the biggest and most controversial names in boxing right now none other than Youtube celebrity Jake Paul and his name is back in the headlines (for all the right reasons this time) as he’s confirmed to face off against UFC fighter Ben Askren in April.

What makes this fight interesting is that it’s a boxing match but both fighters are (by varying degrees) accomplished and skillful wrestlers. This might actually even things up nicely for Jake Paul and a victory here over a genuinely legitimate contender (even if it’s a wrestler out of his element) could help propel him even further as he looks to be taken seriously as a pugilist.

Most people remember Ben Askren not from his excellent wrestling career that saw him go to the Olympics, but they remember him having one of the most memorable UFC losses of all time when he was knocked out within seconds of the bout starting by running straight at his opponent at top speed only to receive a devastating knee to the face that knocked him out cold.

Askren had been heavily promoted prior to that and it definitely seems to have derailed his career as a potential top caliber UFC fighter. The bookmakers really seem to think that Paul comes into this match as the outright favourite and they are listing him at a very slim 8/15 price tag to do so.

That says a lot about the confidence that many have in Paul’s ability to be a serious fighter in the coming months and years. A Victory here would be a masterstroke and the betting markets seem confident that he has what it takes. Ben Askren to win the fight would reward at a solid 6/4 and that might look to be a shrewd piece of business if he’s able to muster up a victory.

In fights like this, a draw is always more likely than it is in major championship bouts so the 14/1 on offer here could wind up looking like a sharp play if this one goes according to plan.
