Ladbrokes Free Bet and Latest 2012 Olympic Special Bets

Now that the 2012 Olympics are well and truly underway, there's a lot of interesting stories developing in several different sports. There's a lot to like about this year's iteration of the games and we've got Chinese doping allegations, American pot smokers getting burned in the pool and a North Korean who is somehow the strongest weightlifter in the world. However that works.

Needless to say, as the competition begins to unfold and we get closer and closer to the medal rounds from a variety of different sports, you can lock in a few wagers on a wide variety of different results.

As it currently stands, one of the most interesting areas to get your bets down is in the Olympic Special Bets market at Ladbrokes. After a rollicking opening ceremony featuring a wide assortment of left-wing razzle-dazzle (imagine an American Olympics with dancing DMV workers), many are bandying about Danny Boyle's name for a knighthood.

Ladbrokes has floated odds of 5/4 that we see a Sir Danny Boyle in the new years honour list. That's not a half-bad wager and it all depends on the momentum coming out of the Olympics and the overall legacy – if it's one that Britain wants to forget he may just be given an MBE or something like that.

There are several different options for anybody looking to back an Irish athlete to win a medal (and not get found guilty of doping). Adam Nolan appears to be their best shot and he's priced out at a 4/1 listing.

Usain Bolt to win both the 100m and the 200m pays out at a solid 6/4 while Bolt to take the 100m and Blake to take the 200m pays out at a 5/1 margin. A world record to be broken in the Men's 100m is considered relatively unlikely and bookmakers have it priced around 11/4 at the moment with no record to be broken a heavy favourite with a 1/4 listing.

As usual, an Olympic record being set is much more likely in the Men's 100m with Ladbrokes pricing that occurrence at around 13/8 while no Olympic record to be set would reward at 4/9 – but where's the fun in that?
