UFC 123 Main Card Boasts a Star-Studded Lineup
- By Allan Pederson on November 20, 2010 23:05 GMTWe've got plenty of action on the main card for the widely-anticipated UFC 123 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit.
The big names are a sharp contrast to the rather underwhelming card for UFC 122 and you can expect plenty of excitement from this one.
While the Rampage vs. Machida fight is going to get the bulk of the attention, there are five great bouts set to unfold on the PPV and we'll be taking a look at each one here.
Australian George Sotiropoulos gets the nod from the bookmakers to topple American Joe Lauzon and this one is favoured to go the distance. Sotiropoulos on points pays a mere 5/4 so there's plenty of money to be made from backing him on a submission score.
Phil Davis vs. Tim Boetsch is slanted heavily in favour of Davis who is priced at a miniscule 2/11 price tag. Boetsch is rewarding at a hefty 4/1 for the outright victory and it looks like Davis is set to unleash his submission skills to get a victory here- the general consensus is that this one could be over quickly.
Gerald Harris vs Maique Falcao shows Harris short-priced at 5/14 while Falcao can be backed at 11/5. Harris won KO of the night in the Lesnar vs Carwin fight with an impressive slam so expect him to come out all guns blazing here.
BJ Penn is the favourite to beat Matt Hughes but you have to wonder whether Penn is underpriced here. He hasn't demonstrated a huge amount of consistency in his past few fights and a resurgent Matt Hughes definitely has the ability to stop BJ. The bookies favour this one to go the distance and a points win for Hughes is a very real possibility.
Lyoto Machida is a solid favourite to dispose of Rampage Jackson and you expect Jackson to be looking to redeem himself after some serious disappointment last time out. You'll find Machida at a 2/5 price while Jackson trades at 2/1.
A points win for either fighter is the favoured result but the bookmakers are 50/50 whether it's going to go the distance or not. Macheda by KO or TKO would be a blockbuster way to end the night.
