2010 COX PLATE PUNTERS FLOCKING TO SO YOU THINK

The talented four year-old Bart Cummings charge looks to be taking an exorbitant amount of money in the run up to the widely-anticipated Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The field has been narrowed to ten for this 1m2f contest and you can bank on the exacta and forecast markets being especially competitive.
So You Think (High Chaparral) will be seeking out his fourth on the bounce in this, so far, undefeated season. He’s back to defend his title as Cox Plate Champion, having scored at 12/1 last year against a few contenders that he’ll be tackling again on Saturday. Having captured nearly £1.4m lifetime and being a specialist at the distance more or less ensures that he is definitely going to be the one to beat here today. You’ll find So You Think confirmed with Steven Arnold aboard for the trip and you have to respect the first-class partnership those two have developed this year. He’s trading at a slim 1/2 but a recent score against talented gelding Alcopop (Jeune) inspires confidence.
If we’re talking about impressive records, you’ll struggle to find one more appealing than More Joyous (More Than Ready). The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly has run against, and beaten, males in her past three races- having scored all five times she’s run this season. Making this season’s races all the more impressive is the fact that three were Group 2’s and the other two were Group 1 victories. The Group 1’s were also against older colts and geldings, so you know that she can match up against nearly anybody in the Cox Plate field. The only issue around her is that she is unseasoned at 1m2f with her track record (and pedigree) pointing to a more accomplished miler than one who prefers a classic distance. She’s at 6/1 and will take money, but it’s those final two furlongs you have to worry about.
Australian Derby winner Shoot Out (High Chaparral) will probably be a popular selection on the bottom end of the forecasts and you reckon he might take a fair amount of each-way action as well if his 12/1 price tag holds up. He’s been fairly heavily-raced this season and you may be seeing the downside of that in his past few races as he ran admirably in the majority of his first seven this year but has finished 3rd for three races on the bounce under Stathi Katsidis. He’s got a bit more tactical speed than some in this race as he’s demonstrated acumen at 1m4f while still being able to get the score at a shorter distance. He’s a toss-up but could contend with a quality trip.
If you had to force yourself to pick an outside contender to do one over So You Think then you would be tempted to jump aboard the nine year-old warhorse Zipping (Danehill). He just took another Group 1 turf score over the well-respected Shocking (Street Cry) in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. It's going to take an awful lot of guile to topple the younger and much more talented So You Think, but stranger things have happened and this quality contender could roll back the years and treat punters to a 14/1 payday.
