2017 Prince Of Wales Stakes Betting Preview PT 1

With Royal Ascot being front and center of the betting action for the majority of this week, one of the biggest features is going to be the Prince of Wales Stakes where we have the splendid combination of talented Group 1 winners and a very rewarding-looking betting race developing in the wagering markets.

This race is especially interesting because a lot of the contenders in the mix here tend to pursue longer distances and the race isn't entirely the 1m2f that many believe it to be. It's actually 1m1f212y which means there is just a bit less room to really work with.

The bookmakers seem torn between the three higher profile contenders in the mix here with the likes of Jack Hobbs just getting the edfe if you go by the majority of books. The John Gosden-trained contender has only been out once so far this year and that was a quality victory a few months back in the Dubai Sheema Classic.

On the day, he was sent off at a solid price of 4/1 and basically had the race locked up two furlongs from home – ultimately triumphing by a two length margin. His 2016 campaign was definitely one to forget about – having been pulled up in his first effort of the season at Newmarket in his seasonal debut. He made it back to the track in time for Champions Day but could only muster up a tame third place finish to Almanzor in the Champion Stakes – beaten by nearly four lengths.

He comes into this race trading around a price as high as 3/1 but most books have him floating around 11/4 or even 5/2 to secure the coveted Group 1 victory. The bookmakers and the punters alike seem to have been satisfied by the amount of skill he was able to flash last time and they are looking at him as a genuine possibility here.
