2019 Preakness Betting Update PT 1

It’s not often that you have the top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby all opting out of running in the Preakness but this year certainly didn’t seem to be a usual iteration of the Kentucky Derby. In the first winner-disqualification in the races 145 year history, front-running favourite Maximum Security was brought down and placed 18th after being disqualified for fouling War of Will and causing interference as they turned into the home stretch.

Punters and owners alike were made to wait for nearly 25 minutes to figure out who would actually wear the Roses in the winners circle. Country House wound up being placed first at a whopping 67/1.

Now it looks as though the Derby’s fourth placed finisher will go into the Preakness as the betting favourite with Imperative currently being listed in the ante post market at a 2/1 price tag now about two weeks out from the race. The horse that was impeded in the Derby, War of Will, will be looming as a very interesting second choice if he is able to maintain his momentum in the markets and you’ll find him trading around a 3/1 price with most major bookmakers.

A new shooter, Alwaysmining, will be lining up in this race and deserves a lot of respect with the bookmakers floating him around a 7/1 listing with a few going as high as 8/1.

Bourbon War enters the contest with a price anywhere from 13/2 all the way up to a 10/1 shout which would make him an interesting each-way selection if you fancy him to nip one of the top spots even though he looks to be a bit of a step behind some of the leading fancies here.
