COMMONWEALTH GAMES RUGBY SEVENS- NEWS AND TIPS

With the Rugby Sevens calendar wrapped up, rugby fans are being treated to one more high profile tournament before year-end.
The Commonwealth Games Sevens tournament promises to be an exciting event, in that this year's World Series winners Samoa will be up against it in the form of traditional foe South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, who are all desperate to salvage something from this year.
In Darwin, in the build-up to this series, hosts Australia triumphed against IRB Sevens champions Samoa to claim the Oceania title. Australia coach Michael O'Connor was clearly delighted calling the warm-up 'ideal preparation'.
The Springbok Sevens team, meanwhile, travelled to Dubai on Sunday evening for a week long preparation camp in order to acclimatise prior to the games being held in Delhi. Some have questioned the Springboks late motives here, especially as teams like Scotland have been training and acclimatising locally for several days.
South African coach Paul Treu has been forced to call up several inexperienced youngsters as injury cover for his depleted side, however the South African depth runs deep, and they should still at least make the semis.
Of the other serious contenders, England are already settled in India hoping to improve on their 5th place standing in the World Series
Paddypower and Boylesports are the bookies offering the pick of these odds on this rather niche market
Paddypower have put New Zealand as favourites to win gold at 2.25, with actual World Series champions Samoa priced at 3.50
Following the trend on overall standings from this year, Australia are next with Boylesports offering the best odds at 7.0
Paddypower have priced quite the margin between England to win ahead of South Africa, with the Roses at 9.0, and 2009 Sevens champions South Africa at 12.0
From there the real wildcard entries come into play, with African competitors Kenya at 21.0, and Wales and Scotland at 34.0
Unlike all other sports in the Commonwealth Games, the Rugby Sevens allows for some form of predictability in that all the leading nations are in Delhi - with the exception of Fiji.
This tournament will be great entertainment, as the world's best teams have certainly not seized this opportunity (bar an injury ridden South African line-up) to risk anything on new and inexperienced blood.
The majority of Sevens teams are made up of seasoned professionals that will make for some riveting rugby. This format will be all out pace and excitement and should prove a thrill for those still new to the game
Betting Tip: Australia to win at 6.0- based upon recent form against defending champions Samoa.
