English Premier League Betting Preview

There’s a number of exciting fixtures ready to roll in the English Premier League this weekend and we’ll be taking a look at a few of the choice match-ups and trying to get a gauge on how things are going to shape up from a betting perspective. After a spectacular few days of action last weekend, there aren’t quite as many marquee matches, but there is still plenty to like about several of these contests. Look for a couple of these ones to produce a few surprise results.

Man City and Newcastle get the action underway in the early fixture on Saturday. City really must win this match, as a loss here and a win for their arch rivals Manchester United would see them drop a full nine points back in the table. After Robin Van Persie’s late strike (courtesy of Samir Nasri’s foot) broke their hearts last week, they need a composed performance here. Luckily for them, Newcastle have been looking a shadow of the side that produced so many fantastic surprises during last year’s campaign.

Punters will find Newcastle trading as the 4/1 underdogs while City can be backed at a 7/10 price tag. The draw can be backed at 13/5 and that looks like a solid wager for anybody who thinks the problems at City might be more than meets the eye.

Liverpool are solid favourites to dispose of Aston Villa and the bookmakers have them as low as 2/5 for the outright result while Villa are 7/1 longshots. Liverpool are pulling some decent results lately and they look to be carving out a bit of a new identity for themselves as the side adjusts to the consequences of the last few years of mismanagement. They should stroll to this one though as Villa are unimpressive away.

Manchester United are the biggest favourites of the day with a slim 2/9 price to get the better of 14/1 Sunderland. Nemanja Vidic will be back for United in this one and he’ll be looking to help add some much-needed solidity to United’s back line. Their strikeforce has been playing some real swashbuckling stuff as of late and you can expect Rooney and Van Persie to potentially run riot once again. Look for Chicharito and Danny Welbeck to play a part as well.

Stoke vs Everton looks a very tricky puzzle to solve as David Moyes men get a slim edge at 6/4 despite being the away side. The Britannia Stadium is a tough place to go and get a result. Stoke can be backed at a 2/1 price tag while the draw is also listed at 2/1. This one could go either way and, though Everton have looked really sharp lately, Stoke are getting some results as well - expect this one to go all the way down to the wire.

Arsenal face Reading on Monday and they absolutely need to get the result there. Punters will find Arsenal priced out at 7/10 while Reading can be backed at a 4/1 listing.

VERDICT: The weekend accumulator will be United (-2.0) x Draw (Newcastle v City) x Liverpool at 11/1.
