English Premier League Betting Preview PT 1

It was another exciting weekend of English Premier League action and the drama is already starting to mount in the top flight of English football. There is plenty to like about what went on and there is a lot of excellent opportunities for sides to progress up the table in the coming weeks. Chelsea continue on the march towards the title and the bookmakers now have them sitting as low as 8/13 to secure the trophy.

Much of that has to do with Diego Costa and the excellent line-up surrounding him. Jose Mourinho has admitted that Costa is hardly training with the side but continues to light up the scoreboard on a regular basis - looking like the most complete striker the Premier League has seen since Ruud Van Nistelrooy arrived on English shores nearly 15 years ago at this point in time.

The pressure continues to build on Newcastle and their manager Alan Pardew - who is locked into an eight (!!!) year contract that fans are now calling for to be cancelled by Magpies owner Mike Ashley. Their loss to Stoke City on Monday will increase those calls and you have to wonder how much longer he has? Even if Pardew can turn things around in the short term, you have to wonder whether he really has lost the confidence of the fans and whether the dressing room is really still behind him.

With a loss against Stoke, you have to wonder where he goes from here and with Newcastle facing an in-form Swansea side, a lopsided loss there might be the final nail in the coffin, despite Pardew being backed by the owners, recently.

Things kick off early on Saturday with Hull City facing Crystal Palace - a match that doesn’t really look like much of a barn-burner but a contest that could wind up having implications later on in the season - particularly for Palace. The Tigers are trading as the even-money favourites while the draw sits at a 23/10 margin. Palace can be backed at a 14/5 margin and that might be enough to tempt a few punters to get their money on there hoping to kick off the day with a real upset.

Leicester are the odds-on favourites to take care of Burnley in their fixture with the bookmakers trading at a 4/5 margin right now - it will be interesting to see how those odds shift around during the build-up to the match. Leicester are looking a bit better than some had previously given them credit for and you can’t underestimate how their morale will have been improved after toppling Manchester United.
