King George VI Stakes Betting Update

The top Grade 1 chase of the Christmas season is only a few weeks away with plenty of excitement in store for this year’s iteration of the King George VI Stakes at Kempton on Boxing Day. There’s plenty to like about the race this year and we have a fascinating betting contest setting up in the ante post markets right now with a real battle between two top chasers.

Despite only being able to muster up a second place finish in the Betfair Chase on his seasonal debut, Clan Des Obeaux goes into this contest as the 9/4 co-favourite alongside the likes of Cyrname. It looks as though the bookmakers think that the King George VI will come down to a similar top-two scenario as last year when Clan Des Obeaux romped home by 21 lengths over Cyrname.

It was a really impressive victory on the day but his push for Gold Cup glory was scuppered when he was a well-beaten eighth to Al Boum Photo. Right now, he’s priced at a 9/4 listing for the King George VI and it will be interesting to see how his price moves around on the day.

Cyrname didn’t make the Gold Cup last year but has already been victorious this season with a win in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby. That’s a great reference race for this contest and he has plenty of ability going forward. The Paul Nicholls yard has been firing as of late and he will be coming into the race with a lot of momentum behind him.

One would reckon that his price might drift a bit lower as we get closer to the contest and the conditions underfoot could wind up being a real difference maker. He’s also listed at a best price of 9/4.

Lostintranslation is the next contender and he’s listed around a 9/1 margin which makes him an interesting each-way fancy. Monalee is priced around 11/1 while Kemboy - always reliable in big contests - can be backed around a 20/1 best price at the time of this writing.
