LESNAR VS VELASQUEZ COULD SET THE STANDARD FOR UFC HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHTS

Brock Lesnar's odds to win the main event at UFC 121 are continuing to shorten as we get closer to fight time and he is definitely taking the bulk of the betting volume for this widely-anticipated heavyweight battle.
UFC has only had a small handful of memorable heavyweight title fights but Brock Lesnar is simply such a big presence in the sport that the past few weeks have confirmed his status as the mixed martial artist to beat anywhere in the world.
Lesnar's odds have been cut to around 4/7 with Cain Velasquez available at a 5/4 price to pull off what would be one of the most memorable UFC upsets in quite a while.
Cain Velasquez is undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and you can't do much better than 5/4 on an undefeated fighter- especially one that has headlined UFC events.
It's pretty clear that Velasquez has never faced and will never face a task as daunting as an in-form Brock Lesnar.
Velasquez will prefer to punch this one out and it's pretty obvious that Lesnar knows that. The former WWE star stepped it up a gear in his last fight by scoring a 2nd round submission victory that revealed another layer of depth in his repertoir. Lesnar needs to take Velasquez to the ground keep him either pinned against the cage.
Lesnar by KO is the bookmakers favoured outcome and it's trading around 6/4 with a submission score listed at 4/1, which is a shade lower than the nearly 20/1 it price it was available at during his last fight. A Brock Lesnar points victory pays 13/2.
Velasquez by KO is priced at 15/8, certainly not out of the question, with a points win at 7/1 and a submission at 12/1.
In heavyweight stand-up fights you can generally bank on a shorter fight and the odds certainly reflect that. Lesnar to win in the first round pays out at around 3/1 while Velasquez is just a step behind at 4/1. A second round score for Lesnar pays 5/1 against Velasquez's 7/1 for a second round victory.
The tip for tonight looks to be Lesnar by submission.
