Manchester Derby Betting Tips and Preview Pt 1

One of the biggest football matches of the year may not have the title implications that it has had in past seasons, but the upcoming Manchester Derby is going to see Manchester United coming into the fixture with the most momentum it has had in the entirety of its season. With City pushing Chelsea for top spot right now and set to go three points closer if they get the result here, you can expect that both sides have everything to play for despite the title not being a big part of the equation here.

It probably goes without saying that Manchester City are the outright favourites for this one with United really seeming to have had a shambolic season up to this point with David Moyes in charge following Sir Alex Ferguson stepping down at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Old Trafford is no longer the fortress it once was when you consider how many lower echelon teams have been able to actually get results at Old Trafford this year and United’s performances have seemed disorganized and lackluster for the most part.

However, United were able to get through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after overcoming a 2-0 deficit against Olympiakos to triumph 3-2 on aggregate. This came on the back of a Robin Van Persie hat-trick and then we saw him injured and out for 4-6 weeks at a crucial point in the season. Then, against West Ham, we saw Wayne Rooney step up in a big way.

The wondergoal that he produced to kick things off certainly had shades of Beckham but it had a little Rooney-ish flair all its own having been hit on the volley. It really rolled back the years for United fans and showed that they are still very much a club capable of doing incredible things - even with David Moyes at the helm.
