NEXT LIVERPOOL MANAGER: MARTIN O’NEILL, KENNY DALGLISH OR DIDIER DESCHAMPS

With Liverpool rumoured to have tentatively agreed a deal with the owners of the Boston Red Sox, the attention is now starting to turn to the next steps- namely how Liverpool pick up the pieces and move on from here.
Roy Hodgson is clearly doing the best that he can do given the situation but it’s already looking like he may have potentially lost the dressing room. Fernando Torres clearly doesn’t look like he can be bothered and Steven Gerrard can’t be relied on to bail Liverpool out every game. Something has got to give and the club either needs to bring in a number of new players (who can actually play) or re-evaluate their management structure.
As of right now, the bookies think Roy Hodgson leaving is a complete 50-50 toss-up with the Hodgson to be manager at the end of the season market pricing the yes option at 5/6 and the no option at an identical 5/6.
Currently, you’ll see that Martin O’Neill is the heavy favourite to take over as the next Liverpool manager with a 7/4 price tag. Kenny Dalglish is listed at a 4/1 price while Didier Deschamps remains especially competitive at a 6/1 price- that’s significant as Deschamps was apparently linked with the post before Hodgson’s appointment.
Jurgen Klinnsmann is listed at 12/1 while Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink and Harry Redknapp are all trading at 16/1.
We don’t see Hodgson staying at Liverpool for much longer if the club’s fortunes do not improve. Their next four fixtures are against Everton, Blackburn, Bolton and Chelsea and they pretty much need to win three of those four if they want to stop the bleeding. Nobody expects them to beat Chelsea, but if they drop points in any of those other fixtures- Hodgson could be as good as gone.
Roy Hodgson’s saving grace might be the fact that the actual sale itself may take a while to work itself out and that may buy him some time. Currently, Hodgson is listed by Ladbrokes at a 4.5 price to be the next manager out the door.
