Fred Winter

One of the newer additions to the Cheltenham card, the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices' Handicap Hurdle is a Grade 3 contest for shorter distance hurdlers going 2m110y. The race is open to four year-olds and up but doesn't tend to attract the creme de la creme of the novice hurdle circuit thanks to its Grade 3 status and the subsequent lower purse. The race was run at listed level until 2009 when it was promoted to a Grade 3.

Notable Runners

Sailors Warn - There is a lot to like about this impressive four year-old and he is a Grade 2 winner and is also Grade 2-placed. His impressive Irish campaign should translate to Cheltenham and he'll be a threat with AJ McNamara up.

A Media Luz - The Nicky Henderson charge progresses off the juvenile circuit and was actually eased in the final stages of his last race - a score at Huntingdon last month. Ideally, he'll be looking to track the leaders.

Plan A - He ran third to Sam Winner at Cheltenham back in November and then spent two months on the sidelines. He came back in win at Gowran Park and enters the race with some confidence. If he continues in a similar vein here, he's definitely a threat.
