Stan James Bonus and 2012 Olympics Gold Medal Odds

The United States has finally drawn even with the Chinese in terms of total medal accumulated so far on Day 4 of the 17 competitive days at the 2012 Olympics. The big hurdle that the Americans must clear is catching up to the Chinese in terms of gold medals.

Both the United States and China sit at 12 medals total.

As of right now, the Chinese boast 6 gold medals while the Americans have just 3. Italy sit in third place in the medal standings with a haul of 2 gold medals and 8 total. France sit fourth with 2 golds and 5 total medals. They are dead-locked with South Korea, who have the exact same accumulation of medals.

Speaking of Korea, the folks down in North Korea have 2 golds and a bronze – good enough to put them in third place. Kazakhstan also has a pair of unlikely gold medals and they find themselves sitting second.

China are expected to finish top of the medal standings by the bookmakers and they're taking plenty of money to do so if the odds are anything to be believed. You'll find China currently trading at around 4/9 while the United are 13/8 to successfully close the gap and take down more gold medals than anybody else. Expect it to come down to just these two countries as the only other close competitors trade at a colossal 50/1 – Russia haven't even really gotten started yet either.

Great Britain are 66/1 to pull off a Canada and grab more golds than any other country.

With the balance of Olympic power seemingly coming from Asia this time, the European countries are racing to get the better of each other. The bookmakers still seem convinced that Russia have what it takes to get the biggest European medal haul out of anybody.

Russia trade at 8/13 while Great Britain are an 11/8 shot. If you expect Italy to hang on and beat out the rest of Europe (that would be a pretty big story in and of itself) you're looking at a 25/1 reward. You could expect them to pick up medals from a variety of places with cycling very much in the mix and they could likely hit the podium in men's basketball as well.
