10 Reasons Why Nadal Will Win the 2010 US Open

Rafael Nadal is vying to win the US Open today, becoming only the seventh man in the history of the game to complete a career Grand Slam.

Should Nadal accomplish the task, he’ll become the youngest player ever to do so at 24 and he’ll join an elite group that includes Rod Laver, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer (to name a few).

Standing in the world’s No.1 way of the title and making history is a tough opponent, Novak Djokovic. Though Nadal is the overwhelming odds-on-favourite to win the match and the US Open title, Djokovic proved he wasn’t a player to be overlooked when he upset Roger Federer.

Nevertheless, there are many compelling reasons why Nadal will win the title today

  1. Nadal threw down the gauntlet , announcing his intention to win the US Open after he won his second straight Wimbledon title,
  2. He’s looking to complete the career Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows this year,
  3. He’s in the midst of the finest season of his career; arguably, he’ll have the finest  season a player has ever had if he does win the title,
  4. He’s a proven champion with eight Grand Slam titles to his name,
  5. He leads the head-to-head series over Djokovic 14-7 lifetime,
  6. He’s beaten Djokovic on hard courts, namely at the 2008 Beijing Olympics—a hard court that’s similar to that at Flushing,
  7. He’s considered the world’s best player right now and backed that up with some dominating play over the course of the tournament,
  8. He’s advanced through the tournament without dropping a set, and dropping serve only twice,
  9. He’s cranked up his serve upwards of 130 mph,
  10. John McEnroe tipped him to win at the start of the tournament.

Unanimous though markets may be where casting is concerned, this match is far from being straightforward. There is everything yet to play for and so much to win and lose by both players. All that is at stake for both Nadal and Djokovic suggests the best is yet to come at the 2010 US Open.
