US Presidential Election Latest Odds PT 1

With the Republican Nomination heading into its final day of action in America, the betting markets and prediction markets across the world are really beginning to heat up and get interesting with Donald Trump set to take the stage at the end of a pulsating few days in Cleveland. The event has been safe, certainly more safe than they predicted going into it with police appearing to having done a very good job so far dealing with the protesting crowds which have been, according to witnesses onsite, as relatively underwhelming.

With the early portion of the convention dominated by the media's pouncing on Melania Trumps supposed plagiarism of a speech given by Michelle Obama years earlier (a speech with lines of its own lifted from other speeches given decades before), the second half has been dominated by Ted Cruz getting booed off the stage and a stellar series of performances by Donald Trump's children.

The betting markets had been spot on about the selection of Mike Pence as Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate – a decision made to help tie the party together again. It's something that really does seem to be happening and Trump has seen a boost in the polls over the past couple of weeks and appears to be building up momentum against the likes of Hillary Clinton – who remains the significant favourite to win the election.

It should be emphasized though that Clinton's odds have been lenghthening by a bit every couple of days.

As it currently stands, Hillary Clinton is trading as high as a 4/9 margin to be elected President of the United States while Donald Trump can be backe as high as a 9/4 margin with several books listing him as low as an 8/5 listing. This is in stark contrast to the 7/2 price tag that Trump had been trading at just around a month ago when he started to lose a bit of momentum that he had built up after winning the nomination.
