World Athletics Championships 100m Betting Odds

It’s generally a bit rare to have a lot of buzz and betting volume happening on a men’s foot race anywhere outside of the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games but the World Athletics Championships are now upon us and we are getting a significant amount of wagering volume as the big showdown between the two top sprinting stars in the entire globe is now upon us.

The Mens 100m is always the marquee event in athletics championships and there have been fewer big names in the sport in recent memory than the likes of Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt. The world-famous multiple Olympic winner has declared that he’s got what it takes to get the better of his competition in this upcoming race happening in Beijing.

In a rare instance, Usain Bolt comes into the race as the second favourite as opposed to being the outright favourite where he usually trades. This time he takes second seat to the likes of Justin Gatlin as the sensational sprinter has been soaking up nearly all the betting volume ahead of this 100m classic.

As it currently stands, punters have Gatlin backed into an odds-on position and, despite the presence of several of the best runners in the world, there are only two contenders taking any type of action here. Gatling has been backed down into a 4/5 margin while some books have him as short as a 3/4 listing to get the better of his competition here in China.

Usain Bolt can be backed at a best price of 5/4 but there are still several books who have him as low as evens at the time of this writing. That’s significant because it appears as though there really aren’t any other big rivals here to the top-two pairing - you’ll find the closest challenger here being Asafa Powell who trades as low as 20/1 for the outright win.

Tyson Bromell can be backed at a 33/1 margin while Tyson Gay is a general 50/1 to pull off a spectacular upset.
