Floyd Mayweather Set for Points Victory?

Victor Ortiz takes on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in one of the most anticipated bouts of the year this Sunday morning. So many of Mayweather's fights, for all of his loquaciousness in front of the camera, actually turn out to be boring points victories as the current champ wins the first few rounds and then proceeds to simply keep his opponent from gaining any momentum by deploying a counter-punching style.

Mayweather goes into the fight as the significant favourite with a very slim 1/8 price tag available on him. Ortiz to pull off a very dramatic upset pays out at 9/2 while the draw (which never happens at this level) is trading at 33/1.

It's probably not going to come as a huge surprise that Mayweather to win the fight on points is going to be priced relatively short. As it currently stands, you'll find Money May listed at a 4/7 margin to win the fight by his usual method.

Punters who think this one will go the traditional route would do well to back that price now as you can expect it to get hammered on the day.

Should Floyd Mayweather go on to KO or TKO Ortiz, you are looking at a much more enticing 9/4 price tag. If Ortiz can pull off a dramatic victory then he's favoured to do so by a KO/TKO or DQ at a 7/1 margin. Should he go the distance and beat Mayweather at his own game then he's trading at a very reasonable 14/1.

You would expect that Ortiz might go into this one and tempt Mayweather into dictating the early pace. There might be an attempt to actually out box Mayweather at his own game. A defensive approach early on would potentially give Ortiz a chance at turning on the heat later in the fight to take advantage of a Mayweather that may not be as sharp as many of us expect.

Regardless, the fight does look to be shaping up for Mayweather and those looking to back him need to do so more than 48 hours before the fight begins to take advantage of the best prices on offer.
