Ladbrokes Bonus and Latest Odds for the 2012 Open Championship

We are off to a very competitive start in the 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Anne's golf course. A good portion of the field has already carded their first round and it looks like we'll be seeing some fairly low scores throughout the week despite the extremely testing conditions all around.

Phil Mickelson fully illustrated those concerns during a lengthy search for a ball that, at one point, had seven or eight other individuals searching for it. Mickelson was forced to take an unplayable lie. This is the type of tricky rough that Tiger Woods was talking about.

As it currently stands, Australia's Adam Scott is topping the leader board after putting together an impressive -6 score. Both Paul Lawrie and Zach Johnson can be backed at -5 and many will be expecting the to kick on with even more impressive performances on Friday.

Belgian contender Nicholas Colsaerts was at -4 at the time of this writing while Toshinori Muto is also sitting at -4. There is a large contingent of players at -3 and it includes some genuine golf superstars like Els, Watson, Woods and McIlroy.

Tiger Woods definitely seems to be holding his own here and if he can put together another impressive late charge, he is a solid bet to win another major. The bookmakers seem confident in his ability to do that and he's trading as low as 5/1 after being eased out to 8/1 a day or two before the tournament started.

Adam Scott can be backed at a 7/1 price tag while McIlroy can be backed at a 10/1 listing. Look out for Zach Johnson and Luke Donald at 12/1 and 14/1, respectively. Graem McDowell and Paul Lawrie trade at 16/1.

There is plenty of action still to come for this tournament with three full days remaining and a lot of movement expected in the betting markets. This is a great opportunity to still back Tiger at a solid price - if he gets in the hunt tomorrow and cards another solid score - you'll be looking at him trading around 2/1.
