Ronaldo To Sit Out Hércules Match

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid are in the middle of a six-match unbeaten streak in La Liga.  They will look to extend it in without the services of Cristiano Ronaldo.  Jose Mourinho does not want to risk Cristiano Ronaldo in this weekend’s match against relegation compromised Hércules according to the Spanish press.  He will most likely see the match from either the stands or the bench depending on different sources.

Ronaldo suffered his injury in last Thursday 7-0 win against Málaga after scoring his third goal of the match.

In his absence Ronaldo were able to beat Racing Santander 3-1 at El Sardinero and keep pace with league- leading Barcelona who are seven points clear of the Merengues. The match in Santander was the first league match missed by the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year in this campaign.

There is also speculation from certain Madrid outlets saying that Ronaldo could be on the bench for Mourinho this weekend although an appearance would be highly unlikely.  Madrid sports daily Marca have reported that the Portuguese international’s recovery was very quick and should be available if needed.

The prevailing thought though is that Cristiano will most likely sit out for round 27 in an effort to have him ready for next week’s Champions League match against French side Lyon.   That tie is currently even at one goal a piece and the return leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Cristiano is the team’s leading scorer with 27 league goals this season.  He is currently ties with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi a top the race for the Pichichi award given to the league’s top scorer at the end of the season.

Hércules, who find themselves in the middle of a four-match winless streak, are in the relegation zone for the first time this season and will not have both David Trezeguet and Tote availble for this match.
