2020 Democratic Nominee Betting PT 1

We are definitely starting to see some fireworks in the US political betting markets now that the politicians and the media themselves are shifting into election mode. The big prize right now is who is going to be the one who gets the Democratic nomination to take on Donald Trump at the polls next year.

It’s been subsisting in a low level equilibrium for a while with a relative non-aggression pact having been the order of the day for a while with the respective Democratic candidates. That seems to have gone out the door now that Joe Biden has emerged as the significant favourite and that makes him a target from the other approximately 40,000 people who are currently running for the Democratic nomination.

The gloves seem to have come off in the last couple of days when Joe Biden made remarks about being able to work with segregationist senators to get legislation passed even if they disagreed with each other on virtually every topic. While his remarks were well-intentioned and would have been relatively innocuous in any era except the current one.

He was then set up on by Cory Booker, who has been polling in the mid to low single digits since throwing his hat into the ring last year, and that was followed up by Kamala Harris - both of whom are of African American heritage. In fact they are the only African Americans running for the Democratic nominee.

The other Democratic candidates used the opportunity to say that Biden is out of touch and, basically, infer that he’s a closet racist.
