The run for the governorship of Texas has been upended by the potential arrival of actor Matthew McConnaughey - a proud Texan - who has begun to make more serious noise about seeking office for the state of Texas. 

He will be facing stiff competition from current Republican governor Greg Abbott, who is currently enjoying plenty of support. Perennial Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke has been considered to be first in line for the Democratic nomination for governor on the back of his unsuccessful bids for a senate seat held by Ted Cruz and a decidedly underwhelming performance seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2020 election. 

As it currently stands, punters will find Greg Abbott available at a slim 4/9 price tag to be reelected as the governor of Texas. Beto O’Rourke can be backed around a 10/3 price tag while Julian Castro sits around a 25/1 price but his political future is thought to be focused more on national politics. 

Matthew McConnaughey can be backed at a price of around 40/1 at this point but it’s worth remembering that a recent poll had him enjoying the lions’ share of support from his local Texans.
