Super Bowl XLV Last Minute Preview
- By A.J. Ryder on February 6, 2011 21:43 GMTThe Super Bowl is drawing closer by the hour and punters are piling on their wagers everywhere from Las Vegas to Macau to the High Street betting shops. The upstart Green Bay Packers have been the distinct favourites since the betting markets were unveiled a few weeks back and they remain at an odds-on price in the build-up to this massive fixture.
As it currently stands, the Packers trade at a 5/7 price for the outright win with a handicap of (-3.0) offering up an even money price should the Wisconsin side cover the spread.
Total points looks competitive with an over/under of 44.5 set. With Pittsburgh's famous offence set to potentially be the kingmaker, the gamble appears to be on the under according to a number of high-profile tipsters.
Another interesting variable is the fact that Pittsburgh's price has been clipped down to 13/10 from the 7/5 it traded at for a period yesterday.
The simple fact remains that Pittsburgh boast a better record, play in a better division and were ranked higher in the play-off seeds than the Green Bay Packers so the only real reason why the Pack are favoured (aside from their obvious momentum) is the fact that they remain a more likable team and are, therefore, taking much higher volume.
The price drop on Pittsburgh is likely prompted by a bit of blow-back from the value-oriented punters. Maurkice Pouncey being injured definitely complicates things for Roesthlisberger and Co.
If the Steelers pass-rush and secondary come up with big performances, then Green Bay will be tough to beat. They were only able to top Caleb Hainey by a touchdown and if Big Ben comes out with the usual Steelers' firepower.
