Webster Hopes to Mark Homecoming With a Win
- By Jaymes Monte on March 30, 2011 08:36 GMTMark Webster plays Adrian Lewis as the Premier League arrives in Cardiff this Thursday for the Welshman’s homecoming.
Both Webster and Lewis have endured inconsistent Premier League campaigns. Webby recorded the tournament’s highest three-dart average of 110.19 in beating Lewis 8-2 when the pair met in week four at the Westpoint Arena, Exeter. Lewis has interspersed convincing victories over Phil Taylor, Simon Whitlock and Gary Anderson with a disappointing loss to James Wade and the league’s only draw against Terry Jenkins.
If either player can play to the peak of their talents then they will be confident of picking up maximum points. If both players do so then we are in for an enthralling match-up.
Lewis, however, currently occupies an all-important top-four spot and goes into this match as the betting favourite.
"Three weeks ago I looked at the fixtures, and I had Simon Whitlock, Gary Anderson and Terry Jenkins in my next three matches, so to take two wins and a draw from that has put me back in the mix," said the World Champion following last Thursday’s draw.
The bookmakers price Lewis at betting odds of 4/5 to pick up maximum points, Webster is 9/4 to appease the home fans and a share of the spoils is priced at 4/1.
In other action this Thursday evening Simon Whitlock takes on Terry Jenkins as The Bull looks to avenge his 8-1 defeat to the Aussie in week four of the tournament.
On that night Whitlock was in control of the game from start to finish and cruised to victory with a 99.30 three-dart average.
"I wanted to have a big win and I managed to do that. I broke him early on and it gave me the momentum to go on from there," said Whitlock in the aftermath of his victory.
The bookmakers quote odds of 8/13 on Whitlock completing the double over Jenkins with the Englishman priced at 5/2 to exact revenge and the draw at odds of 9/2.
