Any punters looking to place a substantial wager on Camelot, the easiest candidate for this year's outstanding three-year-old colt, will likely have to wait until October for the Longchamp showpiece. The Arc De Triomphe comes shortly before Champions Day and not particularly long after the St Leger, where Camelot is also pointed, but this is one ante post market that's going to heat up in a very serious way.
The feature on Saturday's card at Goodwood is one of the most widely-anticipated Group 1 fixtures for fillies and mares – the Nassau Stakes. This 1m2f-ish race is relatively open but it tends to favour the quality runner Izzi Top who lines up for the John Gosden yard and retains William Buick for the trip.
She's put together an impressive line-up of victories and is looking for her fifth score on the bounce. Undefeated in three starts this year – she's able to go right to the front or sit just off the leaders and deploy a stalking trip.
Punters seem convinced about her chances and you'll find her around 15/8....
The mighty Frankel anchors the days card and you can rest assured that the nation will stop for just a minute or two to take in his outing and the bookmakers have the 149 rated undefeated colt floating at a microscopic 1/20 price tag. Gabrial, one of the two real contenders taking Frankel on, is given a 7 lb advantage based on his age, but carries a hefty 50/1 price. Imagine the shock if he was to actually get the result.
Farhh is an interesting prospect for the Godolphin yard and he really doesn't have much to lose by taking on Frankel here. With so few other genuine contenders in the race, it might be enough to give him some room to operate and maybe...
After a scintillating first day's action, and a few solid selections posted in this very blog, we're back to the turf at Goodwood as virtually everybody is waiting with bated breath for the latest appearance from the world's best thoroughbred horse. Frankel has scared off every competitor of note except for an upstart Godolphin colt with nothing to lose, along with an outside contender and Bullet Train – Frankel's usual pacemaker.
The Bet365 Molecomb Stakes is especially exciting as a two-year-old is about to make a giant step forward in their career. Several here have shown a lot of promise – none more so than the filly Lady Ibrox. She's got several races under her belt already – all on the turf – and she will be a bit more race-ready than a lot of the others. Dominate still has a significant amount of upside and has only been on course twice – breaking the maiden at the second time of asking.
Morawij is certainly one to keep your eyes on here too as the Exceed And Excel colt has already notched a listed score at Sandown against a tough field...
We've got several group level contests set to unfold on the first day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting this Tuesday. While many thoroughbred racing enthusiasts are all anxiously looking forward to the 2012 Sussex Stakes on Wednesday where Frankel is expected to go out for a gallop and win another Group 1, there is still plenty of excitement in the cards for Tuesday as a number of fascinating contests will be coming out of the gate.
Godolphin in particular are out in full force on Tuesday and it could be a very big day for Saeed Bin Suroor and Mahmood Al-Zarooni. Look for top weight Retrieve in the opener as he looks to get things on track and score in a class 2...
The fourth contest is the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes where a field of 11 is set to go 1m2f88y over ground listed as good to firm. All contenders will be going off at 9-2 and a number of major yards are all represented. Look for Premio Loco to get things back on track after a disappointing run against Frankel last time out at Royal Ascot.
Juddmonte saddles Jet Away, who didn't quite get the best run of things last time out but should be ready to improve here. He looks good from a ratings standpoint and having Queally in the irons is always a plus. He's won two from three in his season so far and you have to like the...
We've got a stellar six races to test our handicapping skills on this Saturday and a solid £120,000 or so sitting in the win fund after last week's rollover. We will have to navigate two fields of 20 and if we can get through those contests, the prize this week is actually quite winnable.
Racing kicks off at 2:20 at Ascot for the Scoop6 opener with a Class 2 contest going 1m4f for three-year-old's and up. Bridge of Gold and Fiery Lad go in as the co top-weights and the Cumani yard has been firing as of late. Fiery Lad comes in off a victory at Epsom and looks to be cruising at the moment. The spacing...
Horse racing has to fill the punting gap for most equestrian fans throughout the year and one of the few chances you get to stake any serious money on alternative horse events is usually the Olympics. This year, we've got plenty of interesting options ahead of us and we'll be diving into the wagering here to get a better gauge of just how these contests will shape up.
For the individual dressage event, it looks like a straight shoot-out between Adeline Cornelissen and Carlotte Dujardin. Both contenders trade as the 9/4 co-favourites with Carl Hester the 6/1 spoiler. Steffen Peters is an interesting outside bet at a...
While it may seem like a long way out until mid-September, the ante post action is already starting to heat up for the 2012 St Leger at Doncaster with a British Triple Crown victory looking odds-on at the moment. Aidan O'Brien's incredible season is getting plenty of backing to continue to flourish well into the fall and the lack of challengers is now starting to become genuinely apparent.
Virtually all bookmakers have been trimming Camelot on a semi-regular basis as the money continue to poor in on the son of Montjeu. Undefeated in five efforts – all but the first at Group 1 level – his connections are opting for the Doncaster showpiece before...
