He ran his best race ever last time out and you always have to watch out for a bounce after pulling off a big victory like that. The question is whether he is ready to take the big step up to this circuit and face off against seasoned handicappers - a big ask for a three-year-old.
Ascription is one of the next best-priced selections and he’s also one who came into form later on this season and has rattled off a series of solid victories in the Class 2 and 3 divisions. The most notable was a five length score in a Class 2 at Doncaster when sent off at a 2/1 price tag....
One of the most anticipated handicaps of the flat season is nearly here and there is still a massive field of entries for the Betfred Cambridgeshire, which kicks off this Saturday at Newmarket. The race will anchor one of the best days of racing we’ve seen in a while as things begin to heat-up as Champions Day gets closer and closer.
There are some great opportunities in the ante post market if you’re willing to make the jump right now but you’re going to have to decipher one of the deepest fields you’re likely to be faced with over the course of the racing season.
Prior to his loss in the Juddmonte International, Al Kazeem had been ripping up his competition left and right, having conquered a slew of Group 2 and Group 1 contests over the summer months. He had been priced at around 6/1 for the Arc in the ante post market but he has since drifted quite heavily and is now priced at around 14/1.
The Fugue is being pointed towards the Arc and will then ship over to Santa Anita for the 2013 Breeders’ Cup as her connections will be looking for another big victory in California to go along with the one she scooped up last year. She...
The big race at Longchamp is gradually creeping up on us every single day as the 2013 Arc De Triomphe looms large on the flat racing calendar. As the European flat racing season starts to enter its business end, you can expect things to get very interesting in the build-up to the race.
It has been a really interesting season for many and it seems as though there are a few who are kicking into high gear at just the right time. Several of the more interesting fancies still have to be supplemented if they are actually going to run in the Arc De Triomphe but you can bank on connections being there to shoulder the financial...
The Fugue trades at 11/8 ante post for the Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita while her British counterpart Dank trades at 9/2 and will likely be higher odds on the day.
Declaration of War looms as the next best-priced selection for the Champion Stakes but you’ll note that he’s also sitting prominently in the ante post market for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. He was withdrawn from the Irish Champion Stakes, a race subsequently won by The Fugue, and the son of War Front will be expected to produce a performance similar to the one he deployed at York when he...
The Champion Stakes is looking more and more likely to be a race to remember as the ante post wagering begins to become a lot clearer by the day. There are still plenty of interesting betting opportunities developing and some of the top flat runners on the planet will be lining up in this one - especially those that are opting out of the Arc or the Breeders’ Cup in California.
The main contenders for the Champion Stakes are both prominently listed for spots in key races in the Breeders’ Cup, specifically and it is complicating the ante post market as we move forward.
After completely dismantling the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (which will be referred to as the “Distaff” this year), many are expecting Royal Delta to opt for the Classic this year and take on the boys - something that has been done successfully at Santa Anita before. She showed complete class by capturing the Personal Ensign at Saratoga with Mike Smith in the irons that day. She had plenty of quality to flash that day and will be looking to make a major statement this year by taking on the best runners in the world.
Expect to see Game On Dude one more time this year, likely during the opening weekend at Santa Anita which happens on the final weekend in September. If he pulls off another resounding victory there (and many are suspecting that he might) you can bank on his price dropping even lower, perhaps to a 2/1 ante post margin.
While Game On Dude is widely considered to be the undisputed best older dirt horse in America, there are still plenty of challengers looking likely to step up here. Cross Traffic has been steadily building up his portfolio of quality victories and many are...
As the fall season creeps up on us we have plenty of interesting flat races still to come as the European and American seasons begin reaching their crescendo. With Champions Day looming on the horizon in just over a month, along with the prospect of the Arc De Triomphe; there are still plenty of European flat runners heading west to tangle with the best from across the globe in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park.
There is a lot to like about this race, particularly if you follow American racing on the regular. There are some very interesting subplots developing and if know the American pattern well,...
Al Kazeem was in the middle of a dream season when Declaration of War put an end to his four race winning streak that he had strung together. You do have to wonder whether the extra half a furlong was too much for Declaration of War in that last race as he just wasn’t able to conjure up the type of finishing kick that had delivered victories in his previous contests. There is a lot to like about him going back to a basic 1m2f but Roger Charlton’s five-year-old must get things back on track if he’s going to be challenging for serious honours in through the end of the season.
