Arc De Triomphe Main Contenders Part 4

It was literally a bob of a head that made all the difference in this Group 2 encounter. It’s notable that his preferred jock Yutaka Take made the trip to France for that one and will be back in the irons on Arc day.

It is worth noting that he was freshened between late May and the Longchamp race three weeks ago making this his second start off the lay-off. That adds a particular element of spice for a certain type of punter and the three-year-old weight allowance he will receive will likely bring...

While Trading Leather certainly showed what he is capable of by finishing second to older runners, it was Novellist’s day to take the plaudits as he stormed clear two furlongs from home and flashed all the quality necessary to capture one of Britain’s biggest races.

He shipped back to Germany to capture a Group 1 in the homeland of his connections and was backed down to a 1/6 price tag.

While a considerable amount of volume is expected on him from German books, many have a feeling that he might be due for a defeat, but it’s important to remember how selectively he has been campaigned this year....

It’s also worth mentioning that the race was the biggest margin of victory for Orfevre since April of 2011. While he is certainly not unbeatable, he has proven that he can tangle with the best on his day.

The real shake up in the market happened when the four-year-old filly Treve was entered in the running and has now been backed down to second favourite status with an enticing 9/2 support showing that punters really believe she is the real deal and could get the job done on the day.

As we get closer and closer to the biggest race of the season in Europe the ante post market is becoming exponentially more interesting. Punters have piled on to the star runner Orfevre and backed him as low as 2/1 with most European bookmakers with a price that looks likely to go even shorter on the day.

While his connections will be certainly praying for him to avenge his slim loss last year in the exact same race, Orfevre has his work cut out for him against the creme de la creme of European flat competitors.

With a 2/1 listing holding at the time of this writing...

2013 Breeders Cup Classic Odds Part 3

He saw his price drop from a clear 8/1 down to a 12/1 margin after a rather inauspicious performance at Belmont Park. While he is firmly in the mix here price-wise it will be interesting to see if they consider a different race for him.

Declaration of War is likely to ship over for this one from England and he would be a much better wager on-track on the day of the race than in a European ante post book. He trades at 12/1 and is unraced on dirt though he does boast a quality dirt pedigree and could be a real wildcard. 20/1 would be a bit more reasonable in the eyes of many punters.

Will Take Charge is in the...

Obviously, last year’s Classic winner Fort Larned deserves plenty of attention and he’s just seen his price clipped down to an 8/1 margin after putting in a good shift at Churchill Downs yesterday.

Mucho Macho Man won the feature contest at Santa Anita and finally became the Grade 1 winner that many had always assumed he would become. With his excellent performance and a huge ability to flash the right type of speed at the exactly right time, he may be coming into form at just the right time and the course and distance Grade 1 victory has certainly affected his odds - dropping to an 8/1 price.

The 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic picture got a lot more interesting after yesterday’s Super Saturday races that saw America’s top contenders face off coast to coast at Belmont, Santa Anita and Churchill Downs. There were some major statements made in several of the key races with one of the most notable narratives being the three-year-old fillies stepping up and making their presence felt in a big way.

Godolphin are saddling an impressive-looking daughter of their stallion Shamardal in this one and she’s commanding the second place in the ante post market. Currently trading at a 3/1 listing, she looks likely to get Silbestre De Sousa once again and the pair combined to score in a Group 2 at Doncaster last time out.

Sent off on the day at an 11/10 price, she earned a 109 rating after deploying an impressive tracking trip where she indicated that top gear wasn’t really required. The word “readily” stands prominently at the end of her...

Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 17:25

The widely-anticipated Shadwell Fillies Mile is one of the best fixtures on the Newmarket card this weekend. This top class Group 1 for two-year-old fillies is always considered to be a key race for the Qipco 1000 Guineas the following year. There is a real opportunity here for Rizeena to stake her claim on 2014 Guineas glory. With a solid record where she has never finished off the board except for her maiden effort, she also boasts a 120 rating and is taking plenty of money from the punters in the build-up to the race.

He ran his best race ever last time out and you always have to watch out for a bounce after pulling off a big victory like that. The question is whether he is ready to take the big step up to this circuit and face off against seasoned handicappers - a big ask for a three-year-old.

Ascription is one of the next best-priced selections and he’s also one who came into form later on this season and has rattled off a series of solid victories in the Class 2 and 3 divisions. The most notable was a five length score in a Class 2 at Doncaster when sent off at a 2/1 price tag....
