2000 Guineas Ante Post Update PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on March 28, 2018 14:37 GMTThis year’s iteration of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket appears to be one of the toughest betting puzzles of the year so far with a number of interesting options here and no clear favourite emerging. In a contest like this, you typically have the overhyped two-year-old contenders coming in with a lot of momentum but it seems as though the punters and bookmakers alike really can’t decide on who’s going to be the penultimate winner.
In a race that has crowned a number of champions and seen a lot of horses etch their names into flat racing history, the race is truly an important part of British flat racing culture.
Interestingly enough, this time around you’ll find that a Japanese-bred contender appears to be the slim favourite for the 2000 Guineas. Saxon Warrior remains a genuine favourite with most major bookmakers but faces some stiff competition from about three other solid contenders.
The Ballydoyle-owned contender was able to muster up a victory in the 2017 Racing Post Trophy to establish himself as the leading contender heading into the 2018 flat season for three-year-olds.
Typically you will find that the winners of the Racing Post Trophy tend to be bigger favourites for the Epsom Derby while the Dewhurst winners tend to be the leading fancies for the Guineas but not this time around.
