- By A.J. Ryder on September 28, 2021 21:33 GMTEasily one of the most important flat races on the planet each year, the Breeders’ Cup Classic always attracts a stellar field of contenders and this year’s iteration of the race looks to be no different. Plenty of excellent horses from all four corners of the globe will be descending on Del Mar racetrack on the first Saturday in November to contest this big money race.

There are a number of recognizable faces set to run here once again and you can bank on plenty of action and excitement on the day.
With about a month or so still to go before the race, it remains a tricky one from an ante post perspective - particularly when you get out of the top three or four contenders. Many horses also have options to go towards other races and the fact remains that many of them may not be able to see out the full season.
Each year prior to the Breeders’ Cup always sees a few high profile defections from the race and that can really sting if you’ve backed any of them prior to a non-runner no bet option being put in place.
The action sees to be on the outside contenders here but many seem confident that Knicks Go will be able to continue his excellent run of form and put together another vintage performance over the Del Mar surface. The bookmakers have him priced at a 4/1 listing and you can assume that he will probably go off there or thereabouts on the day.
His main challenge appears to be coming from Essential Quality who has put together some really solid performances after emerging as the best contender of his generation. Lots of solid three-year-olds have been vanquished by him and you can expect that he carries forward nicely in the Godolphin colours once again this time around.
