This time the race unfolds at Del Mar on a track that tends to favour early speed.

Gunite comes into the race as the outright betting favourite in the ante post markets. You’ll find him priced anywhere from 5/1 to 11/2 with several major bookmakers and he’ll be looking to build on some of his great performances from earlier in the season. If he continues to move forward he is definitely dangerous.
The Steve Asmussen trained son of Gun Runner already has a grade 1 victory under his belt and he has not finished off the board in all five of his races so far this season. There will be some who think he could be a solid each-way bet and if his price holds at 11/2 then he could wind up being a really sharp selection.
Expect him to go off at a shorter price on the day.
Major General is another big contender who could be set to take a huge step forward at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar. The Winstar-bred son of Constitution broke his maiden at Saratoga and recently triumphed in the Grade 3 Iroquois at Churchill Downs. While the Del Mar surface may not be his favourite, he has plenty of room to move forward in this race. You’ll find him around an 11/2 best price with several top bookmakers.
Pinehurst is another one to watch and comes into the race with a solid price of around 6/1. He has done some great work this year and looks to have a lot of ability to progress. He likely wants more than 1m so he might come up against a more specialist type.
Wit has also captured plenty of attention this season and the Repole-owned contender looms large with a price of around 13/2 in the ante post markets. Very few would begrudge him and his connections a victory in a major race like this one.
