Cheltenham Festival: Thursday Tips and Each-Way Selections
- By A.J. Ryder on March 18, 2010 21:40 GMTIt's a fairly stacked card on day three of the 2010 Cheltenham Festival, and if the dead silence at the end of many races is any indication, the majority of punters have been getting rollicked.
The roar you will hear today if Big Buck's winds up taking the World Hurdle should be deafening.
Ruby Walsh and Paul Nicholls finally clicked towards the end of the day on Wednesday, so you'll see plenty of movement towards Rivaliste in the 2010 Jewson Novices in the 1:30. He's well-priced for the win only at 8/1 in a wide-open field, and he will likely enjoy the surface.
The Hollinwell is seeing action at around 8/1, a questionable price as Rivaliste has done better against more quality opposition. Jered, who is priced at 14/1, is a likely contender here, and his style of running in these types of races makes him a near perfect shot at a place finish at least; he's a justifiable each-way bet.
The same famous pair are getting the bulk of the betting volume in the next race- the 2:05 Pertemps Final with the progressive-looking Alfie Sherrin trading at a short 7/2. He's a decent enough contener, but will need to get everything right to get the win.
There’s not a huge amount of value considering the quality available here. Look towards Kayf Aramis to take this one, and he's well-priced at 20/1. He's been facing off against higher quality opposition than there is in this race, and though he hasn't won, he has acquitted himself very well with some solid places against high-quality Grade 1 jumpers.
Voy Por Ustedes is a strong each-way option in the 2010 Ryanair Chase, and he has plenty going in his favour. If day three is like days one and two, then Voy Por is ready to rock and roll here. He's listed at a great price of 15.0, and we’re seeing plenty of search volume for Nicky Henderson's Jack the Giant, who is listed at 34.0.
Jack the Giant hasn't been out since the end of 2008, and could be a really big story if he hits in this one. Deep Purple faced off against quality jumpers earlier in the season, and started things off strongly before being pulled up in the King George. He's definitely over-laid at 25/1.
The 2010 World Hurdle is where plenty of punters are re-thinking their bets on Big Buck's, leaving some of the longer odds contenders at fairly steady prices, with a few of the higher profile ones dropping.
If you’re looking for a spoiler, look to War of Attrition at 33/1- he can do it if he can roll back the years, but he is actually looking for his third win on the bounce. Pairing him on the bottom of a forecast with Big Buck's would pay a nice dividend. Katchit is likely worth an each-way at 20/1.
The 2010 Byrne Group Plate is definitely one for the each-way punter and, though 8/1 Sunnyhillboy looks good as a win only, stacking a hefty each-way on the talented Atouchbetweenacara at 14/1 is recommended. He'll likely either finish last or first; this could be a really interesting race.
The Saywer is worth a look at 20/1 if you think this one will go to a more obscure selection. He's a decent place bet.
The final race of the day is the 2010 Kim Muir, and it looks good to back the solid improver Buck The Legend at a very enticing 25/1. Nigel Twiston-Davies may be able to close things off here with a nice victory.
He should have no issues handling the surface and, with amateur riders in this one, will be a more forgiving ride. 21/1 Boychuck boasts course and distance victories so that may be worth a bash if you're feeling a bit cheeky before the big day on Friday.
