Punters from across the globe are anxiously awaiting the 5 pm draw for the 2012 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. It promises to be the deepest Derby field in years and everybody is expecting a fascinating contest with a number of prominent story lines dominating the sports pages. It appears as though Bob Baffert's Bodemeister, named after the trainer's son, will be going off as the favourite with a price estimated at around 4/1 or 5/1 unless he draws a bad post position.

Union Rags had been dominating the wagering for much of the ante post market duration and remains one of the most physically impressive-looking candidates in the running but has since moved out to around 9/2 after Bodemeister's freakish performance in the Arkansas Derby.
All of the UK ante post markets have been suspended until today's draw as a number of interesting different scenarios and permutations could emerge from the post draw.
A pair of key contenders, Dullahan and the undefeated Gemologist rank as the prominent second favourites rounding out the small amount of horses trading at single digits.
Creative Cause trades alongside I'll Have Another at around 11/1 and both of them look interesting as well. Alpha, the Godolphin entry, has just seen Rajiv Maragh take the mount and it will be his first time aboard the winner of the Withers Stakes.
Former betting favourite Hansen, the American two-year-old juvenile champion was put away by Dullahan in the stretch of the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes and he had no excuses for that one. Hansen had traded around 6/1 in the ante post for quite some time but now has drifted out to the neighbourhood of 14/1.
Both Daddy Long Legs and Daddy Nose Best (two horses from opposite sides of the world) trade anywhere from 16/1 to 20/1 while El Padrino, who was a hot contender at one point, has seen his odds go more lukewarm and he can be backed in the area of 20/1 to 25/1.
There has been some word going around the Churchill Downs backstretch that Sabercat has looked extremely comfortable on track. He has been in the Derby since winning the sloppy Delta Downs Jackpot and hasn't really needed to show his best stuff since then. He could go off at a very enticing 33/1.
