After an epic conclusion to the 2012 Cheltenham Festival, a day that saw Kauto Star potentially take his last canter around Cheltenham, the attention is already starting to turn towards next year's iteration of the famous four day contest. It seemed to be a year when the torch was passed with only Big Buck's continuing to loom large over his division – all the others appear to be genuinely wide open.

Long Run was certainly one of the more important stories of the festival and it has to be admitted that he did not perform to expectations despite finishing second in the feature race. Many will be expecting Sam Waley-Cohen to lose the mount as the race appeared to set up for him but the pilot was unable to capitalize despite nearly perfect positioning through the contest.
Long Run spent the majority of this year leading the ante post market for the Gold Cup with a price of even money or so. As it currently stands, Long Run now trades at around 8/1 for the Gold Cup crown in 2013 – great money for the true believers who still remain.
The betting favourite for the 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup is none other than festival breakout Sir Des Champs and he's priced at a very competitive 5/1 price tag. Bobs Worth is also checking in with some serious consideration and he's just a step back at 6/1.
Synchronised, who capitalized on Tony McCoy's opportunism during what was an oddly-run Gold Cup, is priced out at 8/1 to win it again next year. There are rumours that he is headed towards the 2012 Grand National at the moment as connections obviously have their eye on a unique double.
A few odds are out there for the 2013 Queen Mother Champion Chase at Sprinter Sacre now trades at 5/4 while Finians Rainbow and Sizing Europe share a 4/1 listing. Sizing's connections will be looking to retake the crown in this one.
The 2013 Champion Hurdle is all about Rock On Ruby at a 4/1 ante post price with Supreme Novice winner Cinders and Ashes at a hefty 20/1.
