There is a lot to like about this years iteration of the race and it appears to be setting up nicely to be a fascinating battle between a number of talented contenders and there are even rumours of a relatively famous Asian shipper named Gun Pit making an appearance stateside.
The big favourite for the contest appears to be Bob Baffert’s gigantic horse Dortmund who continually towers over his competition. The multiple Grade 1 winner (and Kentucky Derby third place finisher) is coming off an impressive win in his last outing and that has seen his price drop significantly as we head towards the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
While there is no morning line or set of odds to work with from anybody in North America, the European bookmakers are lining up to offer odds on this contest and Dortmund continues to trade as the favourite here with a price hovering anywhere from 15/8 to 5/2.
If Dortmund shows up and really puts in a shift similar to his effort last time out then he will be difficult to best - particularly because he has the advantage of running on his home track at Santa Anita Park.
