He earned his way there with a spectacular victory in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar, where he lined up againat a cadre of talented opposition including Dortmund, Hoppertunity and the top-ranked American dirt mare Beholder.
And, frankly, he made them all look pretty ordinairy that afternoon on the outskirts of San Diego.
Ever since California Chrome captured the big victory at Meydan in the Dubai World Cup this year, with preferred jockey Victor Espinoza in the irons, he has looked like the real deal against everybody he has faced and there is already talk of him racing on again next year to have another kick at the can in Dubai.
There is also every chance that he will go to the 2017 Pegasus World Cup, so it's not unplausible that he could amass $20,000,000 in earnings in his career on the track.
