This race always produces a number of very strong contenders for contests later on in the year and the large purse on offer – along with the automatic entry into the Champions Day race – makes it an appealling destination for a lot of higher-profile contenders.
The big favourite in the ante post markets right now appears to be Juddmonte's Time Test, a song of Dubawi out of a Dansili mare and both were runners who relished this particular distance so he looks an interesting shout despite the fact that he has never actually won a Group 1 contest up to this point in time.
He was off to the Breeders' Cup last year but it was a disappointing run, losing out to Ascot hero Tepin in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland. Time Test ran a tame tenth after being sent off at a decenr 7/1 margin. He came into the race with plenty of momentum based on his score at Newmarket in the Group 2 Shadwell Joel Stakes about a month prior to the race in Kentucky.
He has been out once so far this year and looks well poised for this race going second time out for the season. He conquered the Brigadier Gerard Stakes with Ryan Moore up by a slim neck – sent off at a price of about 3/1. He was able to beat some decent contenders in that seven horse field but his stands as a much stiffer test. Should be come along from that then he will be very dangerous if improving and getting favourable ground.
