The premier 7f event of the year for the juveniles, we usually come into this race with a big hype contender who is usually still boasting an undefeated record.

This year appears to be no different as the big contest at Newmarket is currently spearheaded by Churchill as the odds-on ante post favourite to carry off the season with a big victory and set himself up nicely for the three-year-old campaign waiting next year in 2017. He comes into the race having won four contests on the bounce and looking like he will continue to build on that level of professionalism with each victory looking progressively better.
His only loss came in his career debut at the Curragh in a very difficult maiden contest with Ryan Moore in the irons. He has gone off at an odds-on price every single time that he has raced since then and you can expect him to continue..
Trained by Aidan O'Brien and owned by the usual suspects in blue and orange, this well-bred colt is by Galileo out of a Storm Cat mare named Meow who won at listed level at the Curragh going 5f but you get the feeling she never really got a chance to show her true quality since she was pulled up in her next race – the Flying Childress Stakes at Doncaster, never to race again.
Clearly this horse is expected to excel at Classic distances but the pedigree shows plenty of winning ability at shorter trips as well with plenty of two-year-old class in there.
Churchill notably captured the Group 1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh last time out by a fairly sensation four and a half length margin, having made a decisive move a furlong out to have the race wrapped up relatively quickly. Prior to that he took the Group 2 Galileo European Breeders' Futurity Stakes, also at the Curragh .
