One of the trickiest races to wager on at the entire 2016 Dubai World Cup day is going to be the Dubai Gold Cup which will have a number of talented contenders slugging it out over the long distance contest in the desert. This one can be difficult for punters who aren't used to betting on races of this length but luckily for them there is a very strong favourite looming as an excellent shout who should be popular in accumulator selections.

Vazirabad is a talented contender owned by the Aga Khan and he comes into the race looking for his sixth score on the bounce. It will be a seasonal debut for the De Royer-Dupre trained contender and he was able to finish up his season with a dramatic bang last year having captured the Group 1 Prix Royal Oak at Saint Cloud when sent off as the betting favourite with a very solid 15/8 margin and the distinct favourites position.
Prior to that he had captured a steady stream of Group level contests at Longchamp and his ability to navigate the long distance in this race is not in question at all. Punters will find him trading at around a 5/4 margin right now and that's a very solid price tag – particularly if you look to pair him up with another short-priced favourite later on in the card.
While it may be his first run in Dubai you have to assume that he's going to be able to make something happen here – particularly if reports of him acclimatizing well are floated throughout the rest of the week.
Godolphin's Manatee is the next biggest fancy and he's priced at a 4/1 margin and that makes a lot of sense considering the fact that he finished in fifth place behind the favourite Varizabad back at Saint Cloud last year. Unlike him, he has actually been out already this year with a second place finish in a tune up at Chantilly back in early March. It was a disappointment for the punters, however, with a 7/4 price on him coming out of the gates as the favourite.
He has won some good races in the past but will likely need to capitalize on a mistake from Varizabad since there is a clear difference in terms of quality.
Local favourite Star Empire is set to line up here and the veteran is trading at a 16/1 price with a significant step up in trip for this one.
