2016 St Leger Betting Preview PT 2

Muntahaa comes out of Sheikh Hamdan's yard and he appears to be one to watch here, looming large as the most well-backed spoiler to Idaho's claims for the Leger. He enters the race off a score in a listed contest at Chester a couple of weeks ago and will be looking to build on what he was able to demonstrate that day.

Prior to that he was able to muster up a credible third place finish in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and that's made even more impressive by the fact that it was his first step up after breaking his maiden on the third time of asking. You'll find him hovering around a 5/1 margin and looking like he could be an interesting option for those who think this one is a bit tougher for Idaho than it looks.

Red Verdon is priced around an 8/1 margin and looks like an interesting option because he's been slugging it out in a lot of the top Group 1 contests this season and running more or less credibly in most of them. He came second in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Saint Cloud and deserve credit for that, earning the support of the punters to be sent off at about 5/1 and more or less running to expectations on the day.

Prior to that he was in twice behind Harzand in the Derby and the Irish Derby, running sixth and fourth on those occasions.

Another O'Brien charge, Housesofparliament, is up next and trades at an identical price of 8/1 right now, He was second behind Idaho in the Great Voltigeur but prior to that he scored at Newmarket in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy, which is contested at a 1m5f distance. There are no real questions over his ability to handle the distance and he could be a very interesting each-way shout, even looking like a decent forecast selection with his stablemate.

A third O'Brien horse, Sword Fighter, rounds out the top five contenders in the mix forthe St Leger with the bookmakers choosing to price him in the neighbourhood of about 12/1.
