The aforementioned Nichols Canyon has the distinction of being one of the few horses to have gotten the better of Faugheen and that was on seasonal debut this year but then the reverse came about 6 weeks ago when Faugheen got revenge in the Irish Champion Hurdle and was ahead by 28 lengths at the end of the race.
You’ll find Nichols Canyon trading at a pretty competitive price tag of about 5/1 right now with the majority of major bookmakers.
The New One is another big contender for a lot of punters and he’s priced at a 6/1 listing right now and looking like a pretty sharp option for many. He’s been out three times this year and was able to triumph in his seasonal debut at Kempton back in mid-October.
He was second to Faugheen on Boxing Day which isn’t a stroke against him and then was able to come back at Haydock and conquer in the Grade 2 Champion Hurdle Trial. He was sent off on the day at an 8/13 price tag and looks a pretty good shout to be able to deliver at the 6/1 the bookmakers have him trading at right now for festival glory.
The other benefit to backing The New One is that this is the only race he’s got an entry for so you don’t have to worry about any last minute withdrawals to run in easier contests elsewhere.
