2017 Betfair Chase Preview PT 2

Last year’s Gold Cup winner Sizing John comes into this one as the second favourite and he’s available at a pretty solid 5/2 price tag right now with the majority of bookmakers floating a market on the race this early.

He’s been off the track since he took the Punchestown Gold Cup shortly after the Cheltenham Gold Cup but it’s been interesting to watch is odds drift out as the race draws nearer. You can expect the 5/4 margin he was originally float at to go further and further away with the 5/2 out there now possibly set to hit a margin of around 3/1 or more.

The simple fact is that if he wins this race then you’re probably not going to be spotting him at a 5/2 margin much more for the rest of the season.

Cue Card is one to watch here and he has proven over the years that he is more or less capable of nearly anything when he genuinely has to do put it together in the closing stages of a race. He’s been around long enough to be a proven known quantity and you can expect him to give a real effort here with his margin priced around 7/2 at the time of this writing - though it should be noted the majority of books go 10/3.

Outlander is the next best-priced option and the odds take a big jump for him up to a 10/1 margin while Tea for Two sits at a 12/1 listing. Trafic Fluide is priced at a 25/1 margin and Shantou Flyer brings up the rear of the market right now with a price of around 50/1.
