2017 Derby at Epsom Betting Preview PT 3
- By A.J. Ryder on May 24, 2017 15:16 GMTHe came back to the UK and was freshened for a month or so before ultimately capturing a listed score at Lingfield in the Betfred Derby Trial Stakes. He was three lengths ahead of Glencadam Glory and looms here at an interesting price if you’re looking at an each-way option.

Mirage Dancer is a really fascinating entry for the Juddmonte Farms yard and was able to score at a 7f distance in his first encounter at Doncaster last year but then was beaten in the listed Homeserve Dee Stakes by Derby favourite Cliffs of Moher on his next outing.
It remains to be seen whether he’s one that you can really back at this level but from his formline it looks like he’s sitting in a really good spot due to some solid upside and the fact that he was staying on quite nicely towards the finish and will need additional distance in order to improve and he’ll get plenty of that here if things go his way.
Aiden O’Brien also has the interesting option of adding in Venice Beach to the mix since he’s likely to go here unless they decide to save him for Royal Ascot or even opt for the Irish Derby later on in the summer. He’s coming in off a victory in the Chester Vase so we know he can handle the distance but one has to wonder whether he will be at his best turned around so quickly.
He’s already been out three times this year since early April and he was a third place finisher on debut but then moved to Tipperary for a maiden score prior to the nice win at Chester.
Look for him around a 16/1 margin.
