2017 Investec Oaks Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. The odds are still rather interesting as Rhododendron’s vulnerability is now firmly in question and the fact remains that there are a few who could do some damage in this race at a very good price tag.

Rhododendron can be backed right now at a listing of around 13/8 with most major bookmakers and she is as short as 6/4 in places. You can back an exchange price that isn’t really much more appealing and you get the feeling that she’s going to be a lot more appealing to back on the day than she is once a couple of days before the contest as a good pre-race appearance can be necessary on days like this.
Effectively by making your wager now, you’re assuming she comes in looking fresh and on her toes - something that can be very difficult to decipher unless you’ve been following your stable news closely.
The closest competitor to Rhododendron, from a pricing perspective anyway, appears to be Juddmonte’s Enable, who enters the race fresh off a victory at the second time of asking this season when she scored in the Chester Vase back on May 10 with Frankie Dettori in the irons.
That day she was stretched out to just over 1m3f or so and finally got that listed score that her connections had been seeking. She had lost when contesting a 1m2f distance on her seasonal debut - only able to muster up a tame third place.
