He then produced a stalking trip for the ages – when everybody thought he would make all and go to the lead – in the Breeders' Cup Classic to snatch victory from the clutches of California Chrome over the last few gallops of the race.

The two look set to do battle once again here and California Chrome is effectively confirmed for the race with his owners boasting a million dollar entry ticket while Arrogate's Juddmonte connections do not hold one officially but have made noise about being willing to secure one if they believe that Arrogate is ready to go.

Should he opt against the Pegasus the target would almost certainly be the Dubai World Cup, however, with the spacing between the races looking long enough, there is every chance that both horses could pursue either or both options.

Right now, you'll find Arrogate available at a 6/4 margin as his best price with a few books listing him around a 6/5 price. That's impressive when you factor in that he's not officially entered in the race – at least not yet. California Chrome can be backed at a best price of about 13/8 with some bookmakers listing him as low as an even money price to pick up the win here against the rest of the field.

Should Arrogate not go, then Chrome will be trading around 4/6 or so.

Connect remains in the mix here with a solid price of about 10/1 with some going as short as an 8/1 price. He has picked off a few good races over the last year without ever really emerging as a genuinely world class competitor so this is his chance to take a step forward on a very big stage. Another who deserves respect here is the talented Gun Runner, who remains one of the only Triple Crown contenders to still be punching it out against Arrogate and Chrome.

You'll find Gun Runner priced as high as a 12/1 margin to win the Pegasus – and he will be helped by the distance. Neolithic pulled off an impressive victory recently at Gulfsream and his owners boast an entry to the race so he is likely to go and trades at 12/1.

Highland Reel is a possibility here and a few books have him at 20/1 while Hoppertunity is available at 25/1 alongside the Frank Stronach-owned Shaman Ghost. Perennial challenger Keen Ice (who finished third in the Breeders' Cup Classic) is trading at 33/1.
