2017 Pegasus World Cup Latest Update PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on January 17, 2017 22:00 GMTIt now appears as though the field is fully set for the first go-around of the world's richest thoroughbred race. The $12,000,000 purse stands a full two million dollars ahead of the Dubai World Cup and this race has attracted not only the defending champion of last year's DWC but he's also set to face off against the current favourite for this year's contest as well.

There is a lot to like about this race and the very nature of the race has made it a very difficult ante post puzzle for bookmakers and punters to solve. Simply put, horses must be wheeled and dealed into the race since owners purchase an entry for a cool $1,000,000 and get a share of the gate receipts, betting handle and the international television rights.
This led a few high profile thoroughbred racing outfits to purchase a ticket and, while some such as Coolmore have opted to sell theirs after a brief flirtation with potentially running Highland Reel in this race, a few tickets were even purchased by people who have never owned a horse in their life and simply saw the race as a new opportunity to make a big splash and hopefully insert themselvs at the upper echelon of the American horse racing industry.
This has also led to several horses being entered into the race who many believe are virtual no-hopers to even finish within the superfecta. Zayat Stables has purchased a share in an entry to run their nine year old Prayer For Relief – who hasn't won in over 20 starts.
While bookmakers list him at a lengthy 100/1 for Pegasus World Cup glory, there is still plenty of other betting options out there for punters if they are looking for longshots since the two favourites are now in a virtual deadheat for the favourites position with just a couple of bookmakers actually listing Arrogate as the slimmest of favourites over his counterpart – the world's richest horse – California Chrome.
